Brighter than White, Darker than Blue [2025]
In August 2025, Fitzrovia Gallery hosted Brighter than White, Darker than Blue: The Cobalt Cosmology of Cheng Linyao, a solo exhibition curated by ArtFlow Studio. Featuring our contracted artist Cheng Linyao (Lin Zi), a ceramicist from Jingdezhen and bearer of the national intangible heritage technique “Fen Shui” blue-and-white porcelain, the show reimagined centuries-old traditions within a contemporary, global framework.
The exhibition unfolded as an exploration of cobalt as both material and metaphor — evoking cosmological depth, shifting between delicacy and monumentality. Linyao’s practice ranges from finely rendered ink-wash porcelains to sculptural, architectural forms, demonstrating how blue-and-white ceramics can serve as both heritage and experiment.
By situating her work in London, the exhibition offered audiences a rare chance to encounter the living vitality of Jingdezhen porcelain. More than artifacts, the works became cultural mediators — embodying the resilience of tradition while embracing new artistic vocabularies. For ArtFlow Studio, this exhibition not only presented the voice of one of our signed artists but also exemplified our mission: to build bridges between East and West, heritage and the contemporary.
