Brighter than White, Darker than Blue
Presented by ArtFlow Studio Ltd at Fitzrovia Gallery, London
Curated by Hongqian Zhang and Huan Zhou
Brighter than White, Darker than Blue showcases the latest UK exhibition of Chinese ceramic artist Cheng Linyao (Lin Zi), an inheritor of Jingdezhen’s centuries-old porcelain traditions, who is formally represented in the UK by ArtFlow Studio Ltd. Thanks for Volunteers:Tizi Pu, Xie Qi
Through cobalt pigment, hand-built sculptural forms, and experimental glazing, Cheng reimagines the classic language of blue-and-white porcelain as a contemporary cosmology. The exhibition transforms Fitzrovia Gallery into a landscape of porcelain constellations — vessels, sculptures, and painterly surfaces that echo the rhythm of ink, water, and fire.
Rooted in heritage yet oriented toward the present, Brighter than White, Darker than Blue reflects on how cultural memory survives and transforms across time and geography. The show invites audiences to encounter porcelain not as a static artifact but as a living medium — a material through which identity, tradition, and imagination continue to unfold.
